“Lai Ping Lee was born and raised in rural Guangdong Province in southern China. Motivated to seek a better life, she accepted an offer from a relative in Toronto to immigrate to Canada. Arriving with only a little money and no knowledge of the English language, she took some night classes and started working in Chinatown before moving on to a fashion store in the Toronto Eaton Centre, and later to a high-end clothing store in Yorkville. She is also a certified aesthetician and worked as a successful image consultant in the retail industry for over ten years. Travelling Inward is her first book, and she plans to work on publishing other spiritual books in the near future.”

This is the sort of profile a publisher asks for – but how can I use words to describe who I am? I cannot be defined by my name, my skin colour, my religion, my past, or my accomplishments. I will say, though, that I am a soul, travelling this earth, learning and discovering. I am someone who loves all beings with an open heart, finds blessings in ordinary miracles, and seeks truth in nature. I am not so different from you.

Testimonials for TRAVELLING INWARD

This wonderful true story of a journey across India produced many good insights, and I loved reading about her personal experiences as she traveled alone through India for 100 days. Some of her impulsive choices made me very nervous and I doubt I could ever be as brave.

Throughout her journey, her attitudes about people, about strangers and children, about old people and giving people love paved her way to both personal growth and adventure.

She eloquently demonstrates how to be so aware of our thoughts and feelings that we can quickly determine at any moment if we are how we want to be, and if not, change it.

Not all circumstances are the same, not every moment calls for the same response, but to be able to be aware at all times and to be making conscious choices. YES. That's it.

I am so happy for her successful journey, for all she experienced, learned and gave. She transformed herself, with the help of many. Now, this book will help many others do the same.

Lai Ping,  As a would-be writer, I often wish I could say things as beautifully, and so I'm thankful that I have the opportunity to read things which leave me awed.  Those people whom you touched in passing will remember you forever as well.  For them you were like a breath of fresh air.

Having read Travelling Inward, I sense that you have spent long time writing.  You have an admirable mind. With the combination of intelligence and compassion for others, you are set to be noticed by the world.

As I had mentioned to you personally, you are a pearl who was dropped among pebbles, and – not to offend the others in your book – having been tossed and turned over and over, you didn't lose your shine, but instead you had came out even more luminous.

So bravo, Lai Ping; the world is opening up; we have to see other parts of it, and not only in limited, one-sided ways.  I know so much more about
India now.  It was as if I was there with you.  I was there the whole one hundred days.

I would like to see more of
China as well.  Surely a lot of people would like to be enlightened about life in that great country.

I have read some of Pearl Buck’s stories, stories which have left a warm feeling in my heart for her characters.  You have the writing skill. You can project unselfish love for others.
China has changed.  The characters have changed.  They are waiting for you to introduce them to us.  You have a gold mine to explore.

I have recognized a talent in your writing and am still awed by some of the things you had come up with in your book.  You have the ability to produce excellent stuff with your pen.  I'm looking forward to see it more.

I have enjoyed reading your book "Travelling Inward" and have found it inspiring. I also learned much about India  and its people. Your quotes from different famous people are excellent and I have wondered how do you find those quotes?

You have demonstrated the rationality of courage, faith and compassion, despite the skepticism of a cynical world. Keep writing with inspiration!

I believe my intuition is really strong.  I didn't know anything about your book and very little about you, but something inside of me said, "You must read this book now".  I have 4 books on my desk and one on my nightstand that I have been meaning to start reading and yet it was your book that I felt I needed to read first.  I spent every available moment I had during the next few days clutching your book with me at all times in hopes that I would have just a couple of moments that I could read some more.  I lost track of time reading into the wee hours of the morning instead of going to sleep until the book was finished.  It's been a very long time since I felt that way about reading a book.

In fact, if I am really honest with you, while I do my best to read as much as I can, it is in fact not my favourite thing to do.  Reading falls probably to the bottom of the list.  So, I did not quite understand why my intuition was telling me to read this book now. I could not put the book down.  It's been a long time since my intuition told me that I had to read your book and I continued to feel compelled reading yours.  I was always excited to get back to where I left off.

Now, I finished reading your book last night.  I think that it is awesome.  Yes, there were some spelling and grammatical errors, however, I felt like I could hear your voice reading the words to me!

It has left me with many questions for myself to discover.  Now, I have many questions but no real answers.  I must continue to be patient because the answers will come to me in due time.

Thank you for writing your book.  I see the vision of you sitting in Oprah's chair or being interviewed by her on the radio. . .

I loved your book and have talked about your book with a lot of people.

I wanted to write my impressions of your book. It took a while because I wanted to see how I felt after a while and to see what I remembered most.

Well, I feel the same emotions as when I read it. Your journey is inspiring and awesome. It shows what determination can achieve and that doing what you feel can take you to amazing adventures of discovery. Thank you for sharing your experiences it gives all of us hope and inspiration to pursue our wishes and gut feelings.

Your book was a pleasure to read, it was very easy to follow. It is enriched by amazing quotes and of course by your own wild experiences. At times I felt as if I was there with you.  Your descriptions of the people you met were vivid, I feel that I've met them.  I hope you continue to write and share your knowledge.

I read your sample chapters and the India journal article; with this project you're really showing other people the true power of a human being.  I think the way you listen to your inner voice is what everyone should do.
You're truly a good example to others.
